PART 2: The recording that refused to stay silent

The courtroom exploded into chaos.
Reporters shouted questions. Lawyers argued over each other. The judge slammed his gavel repeatedly, but the sound was drowned out by the rising panic.
Daniel Mercer had gone completely pale. He gripped the edge of the defense table so hard his knuckles turned white.
“Turn that off!” his attorney shouted. “Your Honor, this is clearly fabricated evidence—”
But the little girl didn’t stop the recording.
The mother’s voice continued through the static, terrified but determined:
“Daniel has been planning this for years. He wants the company. He wants everything. If I disappear… please believe me. The child is still alive. I hid her. Daniel thinks she’s gone, but she’s not. She’s the only proof left.”
The girl finally pressed STOP.
She looked straight at Daniel, tears streaming down her face but her voice steady.
“My mommy wasn’t crazy. You made everyone think she was crazy so no one would listen to her.”
Daniel’s mouth opened, but no words came out.
The judge leaned forward, his voice sharp.
“Counsel, control your client. Bailiff — get that child to a safe room immediately. And someone find out who she is.”
Two officers gently approached the girl. She didn’t fight them. She just looked back at Daniel one last time.
“You killed my daddy,” she said quietly. “And you tried to kill me too.”

Then she let the officers lead her out of the courtroom.
Daniel Mercer sank back into his chair like his legs had given out.
