The New Light

Dr. Lena Hart had been Julian’s child psychologist for almost a year. She was thirty-seven, widowed, and had a quiet strength that reminded Arthur of the mountains — steady, patient, and kind without being fragile.
She never pushed. She simply showed up, week after week, helping Julian process his trauma with patience and genuine care. Slowly, the nightmares became less frequent. Julian started laughing more. He started asking Arthur if he could have friends over again.
One evening after a session, Lena stayed for dinner. Julian fell asleep on the couch between them while an old movie played. Arthur looked across at Lena and felt something he had not felt in years — the quiet, steady warmth of someone he could actually trust.
